THE GOLD STANDARD: AN EXPOSITION ON QUALITY AND GOOD REASONS TO USE 18K GOLD

os-01.jpg

The “K” in 24K gold refers of the term “karat,” which is the measure of the percentage of gold in jewelry.  Gold used in jewelry is often mixed in with other metals such as copper, silver, nickel, and palladium for various reasons. A rating of 24K means it is 99.9% gold, which is practically pure gold.

While it might seem like 24K gold is ideal for use in custom jewelry, it is actually often too soft to stand up to constant contact and use. We typically recommend 18K gold (75%) because it is much sturdier than 24K, but still almost as valuable.

The color of 18K gold jewelry will depend on the alloy used. For yellow gold, the best mix is with 12.5% each of copper and silver. White gold comes from a mix with nickel, silver, or palladium. Rose gold comes from a mix with copper. Choose the colors you want and we will get it for you.
